Toddler (18 months - 2 years)

Supporting Confidence, Curiosity & Early Independence

Our toddler environments are thoughtfully designed to support this exciting stage of rapid growth. With children becoming more mobile, curious, and expressive, our spaces encourage exploration while providing the security and guidance toddlers need to feel confident and supported.

Thoughtfully Designed Toddler Environments (18 Months – 2 Years)

During the toddler years, children begin developing a strong sense of self, along with emerging language and social skills. Our environments are intentionally planned to support growing independence, communication, and curiosity through a balance of structured experiences and open-ended play.

Through pretend play, sensory exploration, and hands-on activities, toddlers are supported to explore their world, express themselves, and build confidence in a safe and nurturing setting.

How We Support Toddler Development

Growing Independence

Toddlers are supported to make choices throughout the day and practise self-help skills such as feeding themselves, washing hands, and tidying up, helping build confidence and autonomy.

Language in Action

Rich language experiences support communication development as toddlers experiment with new words, gestures, songs, and simple conversations with educators and peers.

Early Social Connections

Through shared experiences and guided play, toddlers begin to learn turn-taking, cooperation, and the foundations of early friendships in a supportive environment.

Creative Exploration

Toddlers are encouraged to express themselves through art, music, movement, and open-ended materials. These experiences support creativity, emotional expression, and problem-solving while allowing children to explore in ways that feel meaningful to them.

What Parents Can Expect in the Toddler Environment

Families can expect an environment that balances freedom, guidance, and developmentally appropriate challenges.

  • Opportunities for children to make choices and develop self-help skills, including feeding and handwashing
  • Purposeful dramatic play areas, such as kitchens and role-play spaces, that support imagination and understanding of the world
  • Support for language development through storytelling, conversations, songs, and early mark-making experiences
  • Ongoing sensory exploration through sand, water, and messy play activities such as painting and tactile experiences
  • Increasing social interaction through parallel play and cooperative experiences with peers
